High School Years

These are earlier pieces that I created and I felt like posting them its kind of interesting to see the progression and versatility.
This piece above was actually from Middle School. We were all to pick and animal and create a picture of them with oil pastels.
This is just a doodle but i like the sketch quality and colors. And I think the bee is cute.
This is a self portrait one of the first ones I think I have actually done. Its very flat and the neck is really long. Not to mention how gray it is.
This was an experiment in one of my art classes painting with ink. I wanted to have it seem like they were in bubbles and just a unique design.
The next two are from the sculpture class i took in high school. For some reason I was into skulls at the time and decided to do this mask. The motorcycle was actually a painting of the one my moms boyfriend at the time had and I thought it was cool.
This was a interesting project. Wire sculpture. We had to choose and animal and I choose an elephant because its my favorite animal. Then once we designed our sculpture we could wrap it with tissue paper to give it some pops of color and other interesting surfaces. We were instructed though that we couldn't wrap the whole structure because we needed the wire to show through since it was a wire sculpture. As for the tree I think we had to place the animal in its habitat some how.
Again, back to skulls, haha, this was a printmaking assignment where we did linocuts. I had a lot of fun experimenting with the assorted colors I would roll on to the slab.
I also took a cartooning class. We were instructed to do a piece was someone we were inspired by. At the time I was really into soccer and still playing so I looked to Ruud Van Nistelrooy a soccer player for Manchester United soccer team on the Premier League. We also had to place ourselves some where with in the piece so I decided to be interview him after winning a match. It was kind of cool to make a character of urself.
This project was you had to create a still life and include a drawing of yourself. So I choose to do my CD player and a set of fake flowers I had and then draw myself reflected in a little hand held mirror I had. This piece was done in colored pencil, acrylic paints, and drawing pencils.
For this project we were to choose one of the seven deadly sins. I choose wrath. It was done in watercolors,  charcoal pencil and acrylic paint.
The final piece on here was interesting one. We composed a skeleton in the center of the room and were to draw that with chalk pastels. Prior to starting the composition though we frescoed out a piece were we were to insert ourselves somewhere within the skeleton. so after we finished chalking in the skeleton we went back in with watercolor and painted our selves.

A Christmas Note

This was a project from my 2D class. You choose a picture and designed from pieces of your inspiration.
My inspiration was the notebook.  It is one of my favorite books/movie.
Next we used tracing paper to gather and "Inventory of Parts" these were tools to help use design our bigger picture item.
Next was lots and lots of sketches.
And lots and lots.... and then once you had a design you did a bigger drawing.
Then you inked it in extremely neatly. Use the breaks between the black and white to create the different shapes in the forms.
Then you added a middle tone, gray.
After you were to add textures to your piece. For this one you had to pick another inspiration. I don't actually remember why I choose to go with Christmas themed items it was something I believe I came across in my researching and sketching. I wanted to get away from doing something with animal print since many examples in class were given with that and others in the class had already seemed interested in doing that.
The last step was to really push your design to kind of a chaotic state. You copied and repeated the image in another way adding some more crazy texture.
Here is the sketch for the one I would be submitting. My design featured a Hornet that wrapped around the side of the shirt. It would be flying into the front of it with the words Broome Community College trailing behind it.
This is the finished back of the shirt.
 This is the finished front.

My design actually ended up being selected to be printed in the school store. One catch was that they wanted myself and another student, my friends Brittany, to collaborate our ideas. They liked the wrap idea that my design had and they slashing lines and typography that hers had. So we went back to the sketchbooks to bring our designs together.
This is just a sketch of the Hornet.

Some more sketches of what the back of the shirt looks like. I was doing the back of the shirt design while Brittany did the front.
This is the design that was printed when we were done for the back.
This is just a sketch of what the idea of the front would look like.

Unfortunately in the end our design was not printed it was founded to be to expensive in the end. However, its still a great achievement and a good design and I fully intend to take it to a local print shop and have them make the tee.

The next project was to design a tee shirt for our school. This was a very interesting one so many options. Our mascot is a hornet so many went with that. There was the option to use the original or recreate it to a new style. I ended up doing a bit of both. The pictures above are the sketches. I started out trying to come up with unique Hornets. Then the started playing with the type and how that would read on the shirt. One of my sketches is more of a feminine shirt. However this project had to appeal to everyone but I liked the sketch.
This is the final print for the book cover. I scanned in the final sketch to use as a template. I created everything using the tools found in photoshop. I was very pleased with the way it turned out being that it was the first time I used the program.
This is a final sketch to my first graphic project. The assignment was to re create the course book cover. We were to research the book reading and skimming through it to give us ideas. The design I went with shows some of the basic concepts and themes a beginning graphic designer would use. For example, shape, repetition, line, etc.
